Eight Reign FC Players Called in for International Duty During April FIFA Break
Eight Reign FC players have been called in to their national teams for the upcoming FIFA international break.
Megan Rapinoe and Allie Long have been called in to camp for the U.S. Women’s National Team’s matches against Australia and Belgium. Long and Rapinoe departed from Reign FC training camp after the club’s match against the U.S. WNT U23s on Sunday, March 24.
The U.S. will take on sixth-ranked Australia at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Commerce City, Colo. on Thursday, April 4 at 6 p.m. PT.
The U.S. WNT will then play 21st-ranked Belgium at Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, Calif. at 6 p.m. PT. Belgium, which failed to qualify for the World Cup, recently finished third in the Cyprus Women’s Cup after edging Austria 3-2 on penalties.
Lydia Williams, Steph Catley and Elise Kellond-Knight will square off against Rapinoe and Long for Australia on April 4. The friendly is the last for the Matildas before the Women’s World Cup. Australia recently swept the FFA’s inaugural Cup of Nations, outscoring opponents 9-1 across three matches.
Defender Celia Jimenez Delgado will join Spain for a friendly against Brazil in Badajoz April 4, along with a friendly against England and Reign FC teammate Jodie Taylor in Swindon April 9.
Taylor and the fourth-ranked Lionesses will also play No. 5 Canada at the Academy Stadium in Manchester April 5.
Theresa Nielsen and Denmark will play a friendly against No. 3 France at the Stade de la Meinau in Strasbourg April 8.
Reign FC will face the Portland Thorns Saturday, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. PT at Merlo Field in Portland, Ore. The Reign’s final preseason match will be against the University of Washington at Husky Soccer Stadium in Seattle Friday, April 5 at 7:30 p.m. PT.
