Bethany Balcer and Casey Murphy Called in to December USWNT ID Camp
Vlatko Andonovski has named Reign FC’s Bethany Balcer and Casey Murphy to the U.S. Women’s National Team 24-player roster for the U.S. Women’s National Team’s Identification Camp in December.
“One of our main goals heading into 2020 is to expand the player pool, but with Olympic Qualifying coming up soon, we don’t have much time to do that, so this camp is a great opportunity for the players and the coaches,” said Andonovski in a statement released by U.S. Soccer. “For the players, it’s a chance to try to earn invitations to future camps so we can evaluate them against the veteran players, and for the coaches, it’s a very valuable few days to try to add depth to positions where we may need it.”
Balcer is the first player from an NAIA school to receive a call up to the U.S. Women’s National Team. The forward was named the 2019 NWSL Rookie of the Year after leading Reign FC with six goals and two assists. Balcer received her first call-up to the U.S. WNT U23s in August, helping them win the 2019 Nordic Tournament in England.
Murphy has been called in to senior national team camps before but is still uncapped. She also represented the U.S. U23s at the Nordic Tournament. After joining the club in May, Murphy started 19 matches for the club, making 73 saves, keeping six clean sheets and finishing with a 1.11 goals against average.
The camp will take place in Bradenton, Florida and will serve as the last official activity for the U.S. Women’s National Team in 2019.
