OL REIGN AND SOUNDERS FC ANNOUNCE 2023 DOUBLEHEADER MATCHDAY AT LUMEN FIELD

Seattle’s NWSL and MLS franchises bring back popular event featuring an epic day of back-to-back action at Lumen Field next season, with date and opponent to be determined.

Building on the success of the inaugural event in 2021, OL Reign and Sounders FC today announced that the two teams are once again partnering to offer an exclusive doubleheader matchday at Lumen Field in 2023.

The doubleheader – which provides soccer fans in the Puget Sound the unique opportunity to see both their women’s and men’s topflight professional teams play at the same venue on the same day in back-to-back gameday action – is scheduled for next season, with date and opponent yet to be determined, though scheduling will center on marquee matches.

“After our incredible experience last season in front of over 27,000 supporters, we are thrilled to bring back another epic doubleheader with the Sounders. During our first season at Lumen Field, we have seen a consistent growth in attendance, and we anticipate this day to be another record-breaking milestone for our club,” said OL Reign CEO Vincent Berthillot. “Increasing the reach and visibility of the Women’s game has always been a top priority of our organization, and this doubleheader will align with that objective during a year that will be key for Women’s soccer with the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.”

“We are so excited to again work with OL Reign on this special event,” said Sounders FC Owner and President of Business Operations Peter Tomozawa. “Last season’s doubleheader was a true showcase of the passion this region has for soccer, with an NWSL attendance record set as crowds flocked to cheer on our exceptional Reign and Sounders athletes. We recognize how much the doubleheader means to the community and have heard the calls for its return. We’re proud to be able to give our fans this opportunity.”

While both OL Reign and Sounders FC call Lumen Field home, the two teams playing back-to-back home matches on the same day is a unique event. The doubleheader in 2021 was a first for Seattle’s NWSL and MLS sides and saw both teams battle archrivals the Portland Thorns and Portland Timbers, respectively.

As in 2021, next season’s doubleheader is being treated as a single-ticketed event, with one ticket providing access to both games, and OL Reign Season Ticket Members will receive priority access to the single-ticketed experience.

OL Reign fans will be able to begin placing deposits to secure their season tickets for next season starting August 15. More information can be found HERE.
