OL Reign to Face Chicago Red Stars in Challenge Cup Quarterfinal

OL Reign will face the Chicago Red Stars in the quarterfinal round of the NWSL Challenge Cup, presented by P&G and Secret, on Saturday, July 18 at 7 p.m. PT. Following OL Reign’s 0-0 draw against Portland and North Carolina’s 2-0 win over Sky Blue FC, OL Reign cemented a third-place finish in the tournament’s preliminary round with five points on a record of 1-1-2. 

The Chicago Red Stars posted a 1-2-1 record during the preliminary round, garnering four points. OL Reign has not faced Chicago during the tournament. The Red Stars grabbed three crucial points against Utah on Sunday night, winning 1-0 thanks to a late Casey Short goal to secure the club a sixth-place finish in the preliminary round. 

In addition to OL Reign’s match against Chicago, the schedule for the rest of the quarterfinal round was set following the conclusion of the preliminary round.

In the knockout rounds of the tournament, any match that is tied at the end of regulation will proceed directly to kicks from the penalty mark. Should OL Reign advance past Chicago, it will face the winner of the Washington – Sky Blue match on Wednesday, July 22.
