Onumonu Named NWSL Player of the Week for Week 10

The National Women’s Soccer League announced today that it has named Reign FC forward Ifeoma Onumonu as the league’s Player of the Week for Week 10 today. Onumonu helped the club find space behind the Chicago Red Stars’ back line in a 1-0 win on June 23.

The NWSL Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by the NWSL Media Association, a collection of writers that cover the league on a consistent basis.

Onomunu completed 18 of her 24 attempted passes and had three successful dribbles against Chicago. The forward also created the chance that led to teammate Jess Fishlock’s game-winning goal in the 80th minute.

“We brought Ifeoma in to help us stay goal-dangerous while our players were away at the World Cup,” Reign FC head coach Vlatko Andonovski said. “She worked hard against Chicago and I think she deserves the award.”

It is the first Player of the Week award of Onumonu’s career. Reign FC has now won the award in consecutive weeks, after Fishlock won the award in Week Nine.
