Jodie Taylor Named to England’s World Cup Roster
Reign FC forward Jodie Taylor will represent England at the Women’s World Cup in France, the English Football Association announced today. Taylor, who led Reign FC with nine goals last season, will join the Lionesses for her second World Cup campaign.
“It’s feels awesome,” Taylor said. “It’s been nerve-wracking waiting for that final confirmation about going. Now I’m just really focused on the World Cup. I’m really excited. I can’t wait to get with the squad now. Looking from the last tournament to now, we have so much more confidence, so much more belief. We have a lot more depth as well, so I can’t wait to get out there with the squad.”
Taylor scored for England in their 2015 quarter-final match against Canada, helping defeat the host nation and put England through to the semifinals. England’s eventual third-place finish was its best-ever at the World Cup.
The striker has 15 goals for England dating back to her 2014 debut. Taylor scored five goals to win the Golden Boot at the 2017 UEFA Women’s Championship, helping England to a semi-final appearance.
The third-ranked Lionesses have been drawn into Group D, which will feature No. 20 Scotland, No. 37 Argentina and No. 7 Japan, who eliminated England 2-1 in the 2015 semifinals.
