Seattle Reign FC and Defender Jimena López Mutually Agree to Part Ways

Seattle Reign FC today announced that the club and defender Jimena López have mutually agreed to part ways, terminating her loan in Valencia early as she pursues new opportunities in professional soccer. The Mexican international was contracted with the Reign through 2024 and was most recently on loan through June 2024 with Valencia CF Femenino in Liga F, the top-tier women’s football league in Spain.

“We at Reign FC are pleased to support the career path of Jimena López,” said Reign FC general manager Lesle Gallimore. “We have worked closely with her while she’s been on loan to assist in any way possible to ensure she is able to continue her professional career at a club that aligns with her goals.”

While on loan with Valencia, López started in 23 of 28 appearances, playing primarily as a center back. López tallied one goal and two assists with Valencia. Before her stint with Valencia, López spent three months on loan with UMF Selfoss in Iceland between March and June 2023, where she made 11 appearances and nine starts, adding one goal.

The 25-year-old joined the Reign as the 28th overall pick in the 2021 NWSL Draft, totaling four starts in nine appearances.
