Goalkeeper Laurel Ivory, who went on to win Player of the Match, set the tone early on, making a save just eight minutes into the match to keep the score level.

The visitors held the majority of possession in the first half with 55%, but the Reign did well to keep the Current’s offensive opportunities out of the most dangerous areas of the field. Midfielder Ji So-Yun earned the Reign’s only first half shot on target in the 35th minute of the match, but her long-range attempt sailed directly into the hands of AD Franch in goal for the Current. The Reign defended 12 shots, four of which were on target, before ushering in the halftime break.
